How it works

Long distance towing from Milwaukee: state to state, door to door, one price.

Long-haul transport should be simple to price and safe for your vehicle. Here’s exactly how we do both.

Flat mileage quote — up front

One exact price for the whole haul, based on distance and vehicle, locked before pickup. No meter, no “fuel surcharge” surprise when your car arrives.

Door-to-door flatbed

Your vehicle rides on a flatbed the whole way — wheels off the ground, drivetrain protected — picked up and delivered to the addresses you give us.

Insured & scheduled

Fully licensed and insured long-haul transport (USDOT 4272551 · MC 1659521), with a pickup and delivery window you can plan around.

Common routes

Milwaukee to Chicago, Madison, Green Bay — or anywhere nationwide.

These are the runs our dispatchers price most often. Distances are approximate road miles from downtown Milwaukee, rounded; every route — including one that isn't listed — is quoted as one flat number for the whole haul before pickup, so there are no prices in this table. Semis, box trucks, and RVs travel long-distance too, on heavy equipment matched to the weight.

Before the truck arrives

Pre-tow checklist for a long-distance move.

Seven things to have done before the flatbed pulls up. They take ten minutes and they are what makes delivery at the far end uneventful.

  1. Photograph the vehicleAll four sides, the odometer and any existing damage, before it is loaded. The driver documents its condition too, and the two sets should match at delivery.
  2. Empty it of valuablesPersonal items, documents, a toll transponder and anything loose in the cabin or trunk. The vehicle is insured on the flatbed; the contents are not.
  3. Keys, title or registrationHand the driver a key, and keep the title or registration with you for the receiving end. A dealer or auction pickup needs the release paperwork ready.
  4. Fuel at a quarter tank or lessEnough to drive it off the deck at delivery, no more. Note the fuel level and the mileage on your photos.
  5. Tell us whether it rolls and steersA non-runner is fine, but a car that will not roll or go into neutral is winched aboard on skates, and dispatch wants to know before the truck leaves.
  6. Alarms, racks and low carsDisable the alarm, fold the mirrors, lower the antenna and remove loose roof or hitch racks. Say if the car is lowered so the load angle is planned.
  7. Both addresses and a contactThe pickup and delivery addresses, and a phone number for whoever meets the truck at the far end, with a window they can hold.

Before you book anyone

How to pick a long-distance towing company — the 6-point check.

Searching for the best long-distance towing company? Run every quote — ours included — through these six checks. A company that passes all six is safe to hand your car to; one that dodges any of them isn't.

1

Interstate authority you can look up

Any carrier crossing state lines needs USDOT and MC numbers you can verify on the FMCSA website. Ours: USDOT 4272551 · MC 1659521 — check them before you book anyone.

2

One flat, written quote

The price for the whole haul should be a single number given before pickup — not a per-mile meter, not a "plus fuel" asterisk. We lock the flat mileage quote up front and honor it at delivery.

3

Flatbed, not a dolly

On a long haul your car should ride with all four wheels off the ground. Dollies and drive-wheel towing wear the drivetrain over distance — ask how the vehicle actually travels.

4

A carrier, not a broker

Many long-distance quotes online are brokers reselling your job to a truck they've never met. We're the company that owns the flatbed and employs the driver — the quote and the truck come from the same place.

5

Insurance documents on request

A legitimate long-haul carrier hands over its certificate of insurance without friction. Ask — we provide documentation on request, every time.

6

The Marquette Interchange (I-94/I-43/I-794) takes the worst of it, with the Zoo Interchange (I-94/US-45) and the Mitchell Interchange (I-94/I-43/I-894 by the airport) close behind — locals navigate by freeway names: the North-South Freeway (I-43/I-94), the East-West Freeway, the Zoo Freeway (US-45/I-894), the Fond du Lac Freeway (WIS-145), the Lake Freeway (I-794) and the Airport Freeway. All of them stack up 7–9 AM and 4–6 PM, and the Hoan Bridge racks up more than its share of breakdowns. Off the freeways, the long arterials grind — North 76th Street, Capitol Drive, Silver Spring Drive, Fond du Lac Avenue, South 27th Street — and event nights surge around Fiserv Forum's Deer District, American Family Field and the Summerfest grounds at Henry Maier Festival Park.

Know the names: Locally we run the North-South, Zoo, Airport, East-West and Rock freeways, plus the Lake Parkway (WIS-794).

How soon can a truck reach me?

The dispatcher tells you on the call, from where the nearest truck is right then. Our yard is inside the city, on the South Side. Traffic, weather and calls ahead of yours can move the estimate.

Conditions we plan for

Lake Michigan sets the terms: it moderates Milwaukee's humid continental weather, but the lakefront still takes lake-effect snow and dense fog, and temperatures by the water can swing sharply from inland readings. The city averages about 39.5 inches of snow a year, so winters come in cold and snowy; summers, warm and humid.

  • Winter ice & roughly 39.5 inches of snow a year (Nov–Mar) — bridges and overpasses freeze first
  • Black ice on the Hoan Bridge and the I-794 Lake Freeway lakefront ramps
  • Spring flooding along the Milwaukee, Menomonee & Kinnickinnic rivers
  • Summer festival and game-day gridlock — Summerfest, the Deer District and American Family Field
  • Freeze-thaw potholes on the big arterials — 27th Street, Capitol Drive, Fond du Lac Avenue

Before you call

Straight answers about long hauls.

Yes — MKE Towing & Recovery handles long-distance and state-to-state car transport, door to door, on top of our Milwaukee-area work. Give us the pickup and destination and we’ll quote the whole trip. Call (414) 279-5510.

By distance and vehicle — a flat mileage-based quote for the entire haul, given up front before pickup. Local metro tows are a hook-up fee plus a per-loaded-mile rate; on long-distance moves we quote one exact all-in price so there are no surprises at delivery. Call (414) 279-5510 for your route.

Yes. Non-running, project and classic cars are fine — we winch them onto the flatbed and secure them for transport. Just tell the dispatcher the vehicle’s condition so we send the right equipment. Call (414) 279-5510.

Yes — long-distance moves ride on a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground, which protects the transmission and drivetrain and is safe for AWD, luxury and low-clearance vehicles. Call (414) 279-5510.

Yes — fully licensed and insured for interstate transport (USDOT# 4272551 · MC# 1659521). Documentation is available on request. Call (414) 279-5510.

Yes — Milwaukee to Chicago (about 90 road miles) is one of our most common long-distance runs, and we deliver anywhere in Illinois and beyond, door to door on a flatbed. Give the dispatcher both addresses and you get one flat quote for the whole route. Call (414) 279-5510.

It comes down to the route distance and the vehicle. Rather than publish a misleading per-mile teaser, we quote each route as one flat, all-in number before pickup — the price you’re told is the price at delivery, with no fuel surcharge added later. Call (414) 279-5510 with the pickup city and destination and you’ll have the exact figure in one call.

Yes — heavy and oversized vehicles run long-distance too, on the right equipment for the weight. See our semi & tractor towing, heavy-duty towing, and RV towing pages, or just tell the dispatcher what it is and where it’s going. Call (414) 279-5510.

For scheduled moves, call as early as you can so we can set a pickup and delivery window that works for you — but we’ll always give you the soonest realistic date. Call (414) 279-5510 with your route and timing.

Pickups across Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County — Wauwatosa, West Allis, Brookfield, Oak Creek and every city in between — with delivery nationwide. Call (414) 279-5510.

A scheduled move is booked with a pickup window and a delivery window you can plan around; a run to Chicago or Madison is usually same-day, Minneapolis is a full day on the road. For a vehicle that has to move now, the dispatcher gives you an arrival estimate on the call. Call (414) 279-5510.

Most of our trucks seat one or two passengers, so on many runs yes. Tell the dispatcher how many people when you book, and it is confirmed with the quote; on some routes or with a larger group it is simpler to meet the truck at delivery. Call (414) 279-5510.

Yes. Madison (about 80 road miles), Green Bay (about 115) and Minneapolis–St. Paul (about 335) are all quoted as one flat number for the whole route, on a flatbed, door to door. Give the dispatcher both addresses and the vehicle. Call (414) 279-5510.
